La Ceiba...
Rest on the Beach
A good place to stop as well as the jumping off point to the Bay
Islands. It's close to the Pico Bonito National Park, Cuero y Salado
Wildlife Refuge and Cayos Cochinos Marine Reserve. Newest event is the Carnival
of Love and Friendship held in Feb. This is in addition to the Carnival held
the third week in May. You can also visit nearby Garifuna villages.
Where to Stay
There are a variety of hotels in town across the price range. The place is relatively
compact. If you want to get away from town the the Coco
Pando Resort is highly
recommended. They will pick you up at either the airport or bus station. Charlie
is a wealth of info about the area and they can set up just about any activity
you care for.
Moving On
La Ceiba has an airport and good bus connections. It is also the location
of the ferry service to the Bay Islands. Flights to Roatan are available although
the ferry is fast and comfortable(unless stormy...in which case they hand out
plastic bags).
